Influence of "dainty" regulation (Regulation No. 282/2016) on children's healthy eating and monitoring of pupils' snacks in selected primary schools
MALÍNKOVÁ, Monika
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to find out by means of questionnaires whether pupils eat more healthily and have better eating habits owing to the "dainty" regulation. The aim was also to detect whether pupils bring their snacks from home, buy them in shops or make use of school canteen which offers its own healthy snacks. Another intention was to find out whether Czech schools are involved in the projects of EU and Czech Republic supporting health called "Fruit and Vegetable for Schools" and "Milk for Schools". Pupils attending the third and fourth grades at primary schools in Vysocina region and South Bohemia region were chosen to fill in the questionnaires. In total, there were 250 respondents at the age of eight to eleven. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part focuses on the legislation concerning foods which can be sold at schools, the issues of diet and obesity of today's children, nutrition recommendations, and eating habits. Last but not least it focuses on the programmes of the EU and Czech Republic, mainly the programme named "Fruit and Vegetable for Schools" and "Milk for Schools". The practical part concerns the questionnaires related to diet of children at the age of eight to eleven. For the assessment of the survey the data from 250 pupils from four different primary schools in Vysocina region and South Bohemia region were used. The author of the bachelor thesis presents the results of her survey and she points to the fact that more than 90% of pupils involved bring their snacks from home every day. From this data it is apparent that parents care about their children's diet. The snack most often consists of bakery products, ham, fruit or vegetable even at 80% of respondents. Last but not least the research shows that also the schools care about their pupils' diet. All the schools that were selected for this research are involved in the programme called "Fruit and Vegetable for Schools" and also in the programme "Milk for Schools". Almost half of the respondents who are given fruit and vegetable at school bring them home and eat them there. The same is with the milk. More than half of the respondents drink the milk at school. It is good that children do not throw these products away.
